Taking a risk to follow your passion means backing your own capability. It’s one thing to stand up on your own and follow your dream job, but it’s another thing to do so with the pressure of having 3 kids! That is why we were thrilled to highlight the story of Bree Allen as I am sure many Mothers can relate to her journey in business.
As an Award Winning interior designer Bree works with many builders ensuring the value of a property is delivered in its presentation, which in many cases determines the price someone is willing to pay. You know someone is good at what they do when a business is born organically from the demand they receive for their services.
It is true that when you find the strength to convert your passion into a business model, success comes.
Introducing a Mother, a successful woman and an individual who pours her heart into every home she touches.
What inspired Bree to choose this path:
I had always had a passion for interior design. Even from such a young age I can remember dismantling and reconstructing my dolls house and rearranging the furniture and decorating my parents house. I just loved creating beautiful rooms.
Initially I did the odd room for friends and through word of mouth and for me it was a hobby that I simply loved.
I was working fulltime as I had always done and raising 3 young children on my own after my divorce which was hard enough so the thought of taking an enormous risk and turning my passion into a business that solely depended on me was just simply too much for me initially.
Deep down I knew I was not content in my role as an employee in the company I was working for and I knew I really wanted to create a life where I was able to spend more time with my children and do what I loved every day of my life.
It was though these smaller jobs and all of the positive feedback, encouragement and support from family, friends and clients that I realised I really could turn this hobby into a profession.
Since taking this leap my business has gone from strength to strength. Now I am an award winning interior designer and have been featured in magazines, online articles and I could not be happier with my decision to follow my passion and my dreams.
Of course there are challenging elements in my career choice and these only add to why I love what I do. I am an extremely driven and motivated person. I thrive from the pressure of a challenge, deadlines and even the most complex client. I know this sounds cliche but I have an eye for detail and will search as long as it takes to find the perfect product for my clients to ensure each project is unique in its own way and to create and bring their dream to life.
Bree’s Driving factors are:
My family, when your kids and partner are proud of you what more could you ask for.
Accomplishment. There is nothing more satisfying than presenting a completed project to a client and seeing the pure joy on their face when they see their dream brought to life.
The characteristic Bree had to develop most in her time in the industry is:
If I had to choose just one I would have to say thick skin. In an industry that is highly competitive there are times where you will deal with rejection and criticism and like any artist or musician you need to be able to realise that you are putting yourself out there, being creative, taking risks and people will judge you for this and of course everyone has their opinion and they are entitled to it but to help deal with this and to ensure you keep motivated you must have thick skin to some extent. You also must trust yourself. When you have that unshakeable trust in yourself, you’re already one step closer to success.
What Bree loves most about her job is:
Interior design is a way for me to be creative and at the same time making people happy by creating their ideal space. I truly believe that If you want to succeed, if you want to live, it’s not politeness but rather passion that will get you there and I love with I do. I get to meet so many wonderful, creative and inspirational people and I now have the ability to make a life I truly love.
Bree describes herself as:
I would have to say passionate. I am very passionate about what I do. It is this passion that gives to the strength and the energy to work long hours when required or not to give up even when it feels like the world is against me. I believe it is passion that gives me the confidence to stand up for my beliefs and determination to keep being unique and creative and simply to keep going.
