Belle Coco Republic 2018 awards

Last week the Belle Coco Republic 2018 awards were announced and I am sure this is going to ruffle a few feathers but also it may resonate with a few people.
Some of the most talented and well received people / designers in the industry were honoured with their awards and rightly so.
I will be honest, Initially I was a little shocked at some of the category winners. At first glance some of the designs looked so complicated, fussy, over the top and in some cases a little plain.
Initially I personally would of hesitated to used some of these designs in my clients homes.
I’ve now spent a few days looking more closely into these designs.
You could compare these designs to that of a fashion show. Over the top, innovative and creative. And these designs are exactly that, these designs are of the highest calibre of expertise and imagination of Australia’s most outstanding interiors.
These designs are meant to take risks, they are meant to be innovative, they are meant to make people talk about them.
These designers were awarded because they did just that.
These designers pushed boundaries, used products, textures and colours that everyone would choose, they chose materials that are so advanced and well ahead of the fashion and trends that we see and use today. And just like the fashion that you see on the runway as a designer you can look at these designs as inspiration and not necessarily re creating the entire space but using them as inspiration to create a space with your own take on it.
Looking at the materials, products, design, textures and colours to create something a little more subtle that is going to be timeless yet stylish, innovative and appeal to a wider audience. And that is what inspiration is all about.
