Our Journey So Far.
It was only recently that I decided to transition from the corporate world. I had a good secure job, a job that offered stability for not only myself but also my children. But it was also a job that I certainly was not passionate about.
After being faced with many changes in my life and finding myself in very different circumstances, I decided to really look at what I wanted and also the life I wanted for myself and for my family. It was then after lots and lots of thought that I decided to go out and pursue something that I was truly passionate about.
When I finally decided to finally take the plunge and launch Poppy Design I thought I knew what I was in for and that is certainly not the case. I thought I would just launch my website and the work would just come to me.
I never knew that there was so much involved. Finding suppliers, launching a website, finding good and reliable trades people, marketing, budgeting and charging.
I have certainly made mistakes and some costly ones.
I was recently asked to be interviewed for podcast which was something I never ever dreams of doing nor thought that I could. After all I’m really just a normal person who is chasing their own dreams. I really didn’t think that my story was all that interesting however after thinking more more about this opportunity I realise that this could be quite inspiring for others who are also in a predicament where they really have the urge to do what they love but are not quite sure if they can. My story is just one and there are so many others that offer such awesome advice and encouragement to others.
During the podcast I was asked some pretty confronting questions which really made me think about things I had never thought of before. I realised that I wasn’t lucky and luck really nothing to do with where I am and where I am going. It was hard work, long days, sacrifices just to name a few. It certainly wasn’t luck.
The construction industry is primarily a very male dominated industry but the fantastic thing is that this is definitely changing and there are so many inspiring, smart and creative women now in this industry and this is not slowing down.
It’s a tough market and a very competitive industry. One that is evolving all the time and definitely being driven by social media and the endless amount of influential people and inspiration it delivers.
I do believe that you really need to stand out from the crowd and not produce what everybody else is.
I pride myself on sourcing products from all over the country and internationally to ensure my clients final product is very personalised.
